University of Calicut has been established in the year 1968, with the objectives of developing the higher education and research in all spheres of human knowledge, to promote art and culture of Kerala, and to cater specially to the academic needs of the Malabar region.  It has been emerged as the largest residential cum affiliating University in Kerala with 34 Teaching and Research Departments and 406 Affiliated Colleges.The University has two satellite centres – Dr. John Matthai Centre (JMC) located in Thrissur and ITSR in Wayanad.  

Dr. John Matthai Centre, Prestigious Satellite Campus of the Calicut University, is situated at Laloor, five Kilometers away from the heart of Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala.  It is spread over 18acres of scenic beauty.  The environment of the institute, a cluster of minimalistic structures in the midst of the trees, shrubs and well-laid lawns, provides a serene ambience to the campus.  The institution, started in 1976, is named after the late renowned economist Dr. John Matthai. 

SMS, Dr. John Matthai Centre started functioning in 1994 by offering MBA Part Time Batch.  Full time MBA (General), MBA (HCM) & MBA (IF) have been started in 2002, 2010 & 2016 respectively.   Among the Calicut University MBA Centres, MBA (International Finance) and MBA (Healthcare Management) is offered only by us.  SMS, JMC is a pioneer in offering MBA Part time as well (MBA General & Healthcare Management).  The students’ intake is 40 in each batch for full time & 30 for part time.  The Faculties of the Centre are experts from both academia and industry.  The growth of this department has been remarkable and it has become one of the top B-Schools within a short span of time.
